“I really like ZoneAlarm's clear interface, the help, the hint to search for suspect process names. I had no problems with installation and updates (running now on our 3 home PCs). In the past I have used Norton and McAfee. Their interface seemed muddy and with both products I worried that I somehow made a change and left the back door unlocked.After careful research, I decided to go with ZoneAlarm 6.5 end of December 2006 (for a 15-day trial). If you decide to switch, regardless of which new security suite, make sure you download all uninstall scripts before you disable your internet connection and uninstall the old software (for McAfee you need an uninstall script that you have to download from their web site). My use is only for general internet browsing nothing fancy. A full system scan does slow the machine down, so I schedule it when I don't need to access the computer. BTW-Norton's system scan was worse.”
“I tried Zone Alarm I.S. after having been badly let down by Panda I.S. 2007. Their product would not install and Tech support was a waste of time. What a refreshing change Zone Zlarm was. It was far cheaper, loaded with no problems and updated easily. It has been running for a week now with no problems. There is also UK telephone support if you need it (unlike Panda, who only have e-mail support and don't bother answering most of the time).”
“I acknowledge that some people have had problems, myself included! If you have the free Zone Alarms firewall installed you cannot install this software over it, it has to be uninstalled first; it doesn't say that at the beginning of the suite documentation and suggests that you can install the software over the firewall. With that comment out of the way, boy is this stuff good. I have been running McAfee anti-virus, with a free Zone Alarms firewall and Lavasoft ad-aware. Having got Zone Alarm Internet Security properly installed, it has identified 5 viruses that my McAfee had missed, picked up 3, albeit low risk, spy-ware entires that ad-aware missed and windows defender and all for a bargain price cheaper than what you can purchase it from the US. I can only acknowledge the negative comments made by other users, but this is a multi-facetted piece of software with many roles. What it needs to be compared against is its main home user competitors, namely Norton and McAfee. Both have their supporters, but for me, at this price, this spec and its overall effectiveness, this is the product to buy if you are concerned about security. Obviously, you must make a choice, but I have at some time or other either worked with, or purchased just about all of the available "defensive software": this is the one installed on my own PC and one that I would recommend above all others for use in a home environment. Price, usability and most of all effectiveness make it the number one for me. Still undecided or a student low on cash? Go to Zone Labs and Lavasoft websites, they have some software which is free to download, including a 14 day Zone Alarm Pro trial. Is it as good? No, but if you had any doubts that you needed something like this suite, they will persuade you that you do.”
“I started with Norton, later moved to McAffee, and finally to Zone Alarm. As soon as I had installed Internet Security Suite 6 I ran the virus / spyware scan, and the scan found a W32 Banking Trojan which had previously been completely missed by the full McAffee scan. I know the trojan had been on my system for a couple of weeks prior to installing Zone Alarm, because of the occasional 'memory error' message I got when I closed my web browser. This despite a regular scan. Zone Alarm found and neutralised it on the first try. “
